While every Labrador here is cherished, Lucas was my True North — my constant shadow, my steady companion, my once-in-a-lifetime heart dog. He embodied the temperament, structure, dignity, and quiet strength that define the Labrador Retriever at its best. He was not simply titled — he was correct in spirit and form.

All Labradors within the EverOak breeding program are DNA tested for coat color and specifically for the “D” locus (dilution gene). We are proud to confirm that every Labrador in our program is 100% dilute free (DD).
As preservation breeders, protecting the integrity of the Labrador Retriever is not optional — it is our responsibility. Comprehensive health testing and documented genetic screening ensure we uphold the written breed standard while safeguarding pigment, health, and long-term breed consistency.
We do not simply speak about preservation — we document it and stand behind it.

Congratulations to Lucas and Amy on an exceptional achievement at the 2013 Labrador Retriever Club National Specialty.
On October 11, 2013, under respected Judge Ms. Sharon Grieves, Lucas was awarded a Judge’s Award of Merit (JAM) — an honor reserved for truly outstanding representatives of the breed.
Notably, he was the only Chocolate Labrador to make both the initial cut and the final cut in Breed competition, ultimately standing as the top Chocolate Labrador at the National Specialty.
Affectionately known as “Big Brown Dawg,” Lucas represented correct type, structure, and presence on the breed’s most prestigious stage — a proud moment in preservation breeding and a legacy we continue to honor at EverOak.
